La Conde

La Conde is a community project of public space with an anti-racist, decolonizing and entrepreneurial perspective that integrates ecology, emancipatory education, the arts and health. It is aimed at children, adolescents, and older adults within a residential area that includes a population of over 28 thousand people between the communities of San Antón, Saint Just and Los Mirtos. With the La Conde project, we seek to recover the 6,165-string campus that the old Carlos Conde Marín School has (closed in 2017) and turn it into a community space that encourages, promotes, and values neighborhood creativity as a trigger for opportunities. We are currently in the first phase with the creation of a community kitchen integrated into a multi-use space in the former Home Economics and Industrial Arts Hall. This project has the community consensus of the 2020-2021 Community Plan.

For this first phase we have the support of organizations such as Colectivo Ilé, La Maraña, Hispanic Federation, Sigrid Rausing Trust, Fundación Segarra, Fundación Buena Vibra, Iron Man and Unión de Carpinteros de Puerto Rico.

The Fruit Forest

In October 2017, three acres of land from the farm of the Carlos Conde Marín School were turned into a landfill by government authorities. Since then, we have advocated for the restoration of the farm and have carried out countless brigades to clean and adapt the land for planting. We have received visits from different brigades such as the team from QT SaS Brigade: Queer Trans Solidarity and Service Brigade.

We are currently in the process of continuing planting, weeding, pruning, and ornamental work. Our goal is to plant diverse species of fruit trees to promote an ecosystem with food for future generations.

We envision the Fruit Forest as a path for the barrio to have a safe and pleasant area for exercise, fresh air, and to be in contact with nature. This project has the community consensus of the 2020-2021 Community Plan.

Today we need your support to continue reforestation. You can subscribe and volunteer for a planting brigade.

This project is supported in part by Para La Naturaleza, Solidaire Network y Hester Street .
